ARE YOU PRETENDING TO BE CHRISTIAN?

Introduction: The Most Dangerous Lie
Too many people are still pretending to be Christian. If you're truly honest, you've been there too and so have I.
However, some have moved forward, but many are still stuck, wearing the mask, never growing.
We go to church, we speak in Christian phrases, we carry Bibles, post verses, and say prayers at meals. But when the dust settles, and we are alone with our thoughts and God, something whispers from within: “Is any of this even real in you?”
⚠️ This isn’t a game.
Jesus Christ didn’t die so we could look Christian.
He died to transform us, not to help us pretend.
📖 Matthew 15:8 KJV
“This people draweth nigh unto me with their mouth, and honoureth me with their lips; but their heart is far from me.”
God Speaks – Are You Even Listening? Do You Even Care?
We live in a world where God still speaks, but we live like He doesn’t.
We live like He's silent, far, and disinterested. But God speaks in many ways, and most of us ignore them all.
📖 Job 33:14-16 KJV
14 For God speaketh once, yea twice, yet man perceiveth it not.
15 In a dream, in a vision of the night, when deep sleep falleth upon men, in slumberings upon the bed;
16 Then he openeth the ears of men, and sealeth their instruction.
God speaks:
- Through His Word
- Through conviction
- Through conscience
- Through circumstances
- Through whispers in the night
- Through dreams and visions
- Through His Holy Spirit
- Through the people around us
- And sometimes... even through silence.
If you don't hear Him, it's not because He’s not speaking.
👉 It’s because you’ve trained your heart not to care.
Pretending is a Disease of the Soul
📖 2 Timothy 3:5 KJV
“Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away.”
A “form” of godliness is Christian appearance without Christ’s presence.
It looks right. It sounds right. But it's dead.
You know all the right answers, but your heart is unmoved.
You cry at worship songs, but you don’t obey God in private.
You serve in ministry, but you won’t repent in secret.
That’s not Christianity, that’s performance. It's theatre. It’s acting the part while your heart stays unchanged.
💬 Are you truly holy? or just pretending to be holy?
Jesus has harsh and real words for this:
📖 Matthew 23:27 KJV
“Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye are like unto whited sepulchres, which indeed appear beautiful outward, but are within full of dead men's bones, and of all uncleanness.”
The problem isn’t that we’re weak, it’s that we’ve made peace with being fake.
The Deception of Pretending
The terrifying thing about pretending is this:
You can fool others. You can fool yourself.
⚠️ But you cannot fool God.
📖 Galatians 6:7 KJV
“Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap.”
Self-deception is one of satan’s greatest weapons, where he cleverly whispers:
- “You're fine.”
- “God understands.”
- “At least you’re not as bad as them.”
- “You go to church, that’s enough.”
However, Jesus said:
📖 Matthew 7:21 KJV
“Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven.”
So the question isn't “Do you call Him Lord?”
👉 The question is “Do you obey Him?”

Conviction Is Mercy – Don’t Ignore It
If your soul is trembling right now, that’s not guilt. That’s grace.
That’s the Holy Spirit shaking your soul to wake you up.
📖 Hebrews 3:15 KJV
“Today if ye will hear his voice, harden not your hearts.”
God speaks with purpose, not to shame you, but to save you.
He exposes fake people not to crush them, but to redeem them.
If you feel exposed right now, praise God.
That means you’re not numb yet.
That means He’s still calling you back.
⚠️ But make no mistake: that call won’t last forever.
What Should You Do Now?
Live like Jesus actually means everything to you.
📖 John 14:15 KJV
“If ye love me, keep my commandments.”

Ask God to make your heart real again.
📖 Psalm 51:10 KJV
“Create in me a clean heart, O God; and renew a right spirit within me.”

Repent of pretending.
📖 Joel 2:13 KJV
“And rend your heart, and not your garments, and turn unto the Lord your God: for he is gracious and merciful, slow to anger, and of great kindness, and repenteth him of the evil”
Fall on your face before God.
📖 Psalm 51:17 KJV
“The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit: a broken and a contrite heart, O God, thou wilt not despise.”
Final Word: Stop Faking, Start Truly Following Jesus
It’s time to stop the act. Your time is running out!
You don’t need to impress anyone. You need to be reborn.
If you are tired of pretending, Jesus is ready to make you real.
But you must be honest, broken, ashamed, and hungry for truth.
This is your wake-up call.
This is your moment to fall on your knees and say, “Lord, I don’t want to fake it anymore. I want to be truly Yours.”
Don’t wait.
When God speaks — listen. Obey. Repent. Follow.
Not with lips.
Not with appearances, but with your life, and with your actions.
📖 Isaiah 1:16 KJV
"Wash you, make you clean; put away the evil of your doings from before mine eyes; cease to do evil; "

Prayer 🙏
Dear God,
I come before You, not with polished words, but with a trembling heart.
No more pretending. No more games. No more empty masks.
You see past my church clothes, my spiritual words, my performances and You see the hidden corners of my heart where compromise and sin still lives.
I confess, Lord... I have acted the part of a Christian
while ignoring the whispers of Your voice.
I’ve raised my hands in worship while keeping my heart closed in secret.
I’ve nodded at sermons but walked away unchanged.
I’ve feared being exposed more than I’ve feared being fake.
But no more. Break the show. Burn the script.
Tear down the stage I've built to impress others.
I don’t want the image — I want intimacy.
I don’t want performance — I want purity.
I don’t want to just look holy — I want to be holy.
Dear God, please speak again.
Even if it breaks me, please speak.
Even if it ruins my comfort, please convict me.
Even if it costs me everything, please cleanse me.
Please make me real.
Please make me true.
Please make me Yours.
Dear Lord Jesus, You died for a sinner like me.
So today I lay down my act, and I surrender my heart.
Please change me from the inside out.
Let Your Word cut where it must, and heal where it can.
Let Your Holy Spirit expose every lie I’ve believed, especially the ones I’ve told myself.
And please, God… don’t let me ever go back to pretending.
In Jesus’ holy name,
Amen
