Bible Study: Wisdom That Sees Ahead
The prudent sees danger and hides himself, but the simple go on and suffer for it. Proverbs 22:3
Life moves quickly, and modern pressures can make us rush, react, and ignore warning signs. We are often praised for being bold, spontaneous, and fearless. But Scripture teaches us that wisdom is not recklessness. Wisdom is the grace to see what is coming and respond before harm takes hold. The prudent person does not live in fear. He lives with discernment. He notices patterns, listens to correction, and makes careful choices that protect his future.
In our daily lives, danger does not always look dramatic. Sometimes it appears as a compromise that seems small, a relationship that weakens our faith, a habit that slowly steals our peace, or a voice that pushes us away from God’s truth. The wise person does not wait until damage is done. He hides himself, meaning he takes refuge in God, steps back from what is harmful, and chooses a safer path. This is not weakness. It is strength under control.
Jesus also calls us to live wisely in a world full of spiritual traps. He said, “Be ye therefore wise as serpents, and harmless as doves” Matthew 10:16. That wisdom comes from walking closely with the Lord. When we pray, read His Word, and obey His voice, He sharpens our discernment. He helps us see what others may miss. He gives us the courage to say no, to wait, to leave, and to trust Him when a situation feels wrong.
Proverbs 27:12 says, “A prudent man foreseeth the evil, and hideth himself; but the simple pass on, and are punished.” This verse reminds us that avoiding danger is often an act of humility. It means admitting that not every opportunity is from God, and not every open door is safe. It means valuing peace over pressure and obedience over impulse.
Today, ask the Lord to make you prudent. Ask Him to show you what to avoid, what to leave behind, and where to take refuge. If you sense danger in your thoughts, your relationships, your choices, or your environment, do not ignore it. Run to God. He is your hiding place, your shield, and your guide.
The wise do not boast in their own insight. They trust the One who sees the end from the beginning. And when we walk with Him, we are not merely surviving danger. We are learning to live in the safety of His wisdom.
