This verse is part of Jesus’ message to the church in Philadelphia (Revelation 3:7-13). The church in Philadelphia was one of the seven churches in Asia Minor addressed in Revelation 2-3.
Philadelphia’s name means “brotherly love”, and it was located in an area prone to earthquakes, often requiring the people to live with uncertainty. Spiritually, however, Christ assures them of security and opportunity.

"I know thy works"
