The Lord My Banner

The Lord My Banner
The Power of Jehovah Nissi

In a world filled with spiritual battles, emotional overwhelm, and constant opposition, it’s easy to feel like the enemy is advancing faster than we can stand.

However, there’s a powerful name of God, and that Name is Jehovah Nissi, “The Lord is my Banner”, that reminds us we are not alone.

When the attacks come like a flood, God Himself steps in, raises His banner, and fights for us. In this short study, we’ll explore what Jehovah Nissi means for your everyday battles through the lens of Isaiah 59:19 and a few key cross-references.

Jehovah Nissi – "The LORD My Banner"

📖 Isaiah 59:19

"So shall they fear the name of the Lord from the west, and his glory from the rising of the sun. When the enemy shall come in like a flood, the Spirit of the Lord shall lift up a standard against him."

Commentary:

“Jehovah Nissi” means “The LORD is my Banner” (Exodus 17:15). A banner in biblical times was a rallying point in battle, something lifted high to unite, lead, and give hope to the people.

In declaring Jehovah Nissi, we are proclaiming that the Lord is the One who gives us victory, identity, and direction in spiritual warfare.

Isaiah 59:19 describes a powerful promise: when the enemy (Satan, sin, or spiritual opposition) surges in like a flood, God does not leave His people defenseless.

The Spirit of the LORD Himself intervenes and lifts a standard (a divine battle flag) against the adversary.

👉 This standard is a real spiritual force. It is the active presence of God that pushes back darkness, delivers victory, and brings glory to His name.
